Jan 2014 – Ongoing: Project Manager for EUCENTRE: Ecological COastal Strategies and Tools for Resilient European SocietieS ECOSTRESS (work programme – DG ECHO 2013): the project will be focused on the search of better-integrated strategies through the strengthening of the risk prevention and disaster management cycle of the coastal zones. These complex systems are defined as land regions near the sea comprising all natural and human related elements potentially at risk due to flood. With Deltares (NL), AFPCN (F), ISIG (IT)

The project proposes to use Bayesian Stochastic modeling technique applied to ecosystem services in order to accurately assess the vulnerability of the water system by appropriately choosing the explanatory variables (ie, predictors) to be used in statistical analyzes. This procedure will be developed through a Stochastic model in order to obtain relevant vulnerability maps, where it will be possible to assess the effect of using different threshold values, to distinguish between positive and negative evidence of water resource management.

• August 2013 – Ongoing (PI): Cat1 – ESA 14945: “Monitoring boat anchoring pressure on Posidonia oceanica meadows through satellite SAR imagery”
• July 2013 – Ongoing (co-I): ISPRA LIFE+IMAGINE Project: Integrated coastal area Management Application implementing GMES, INspire and sEis data policies (Budget 176.000 €). The objective is to provide coastal area management application addressing two scenarios of interest in the Liguria/Tuscany coast: soil sealing impact and floods&landslide prediction. The interoperable applications will be designed according to the SEIS guidelines, basing data/services on INSPIRE rules, interfacing the processes with GMES infrastructure.
• May 2013 – ongoing (PI): ISPRA Radarsat-2 Canadian Space Agency project; data contribution to morphodynamic analysis in coastal areas. The objective of this project is to integrate Radarsat-2 data into a study of the coastal monitoring and morphodynamic analysis. The goal is the evaluation of suitability of satellite remote sensing for coastal vulnerability assessment and the detection of the dominant processes and trends in coastal landscapes.
• February 2013 – Ongoing (PI): ISPRA Terrasar-X DLR Project: High Resolution coastal bathymetry for morphodynamic modelling studies: The main aim of the project is to use Terra-SAR X imagery to reconstruct the topography and bathymetry for the mosaic, for some of the European coastline. The project will be the first initiative to generate High Resolution (HR) dynamical downscaling of wind, precipitation, wave and topo-bathymetry with Satellite-based products.
• April 2012 – ongoing (Co-I): ISPRA EU DG Enterprise Contract Agreement – Lot 2: Support to the take-up of GMES services by users Section 4: Technical Proposal No. 89/PP/ENT/2011 (Budget 140.000 €). Capacity building and technology transfer to support the Copernicus (GMES) User forum in the use of products and services available from 20 years of earth surface monitoring and modeling from satellite and insitu data. Dissemination and training on methodologies. Responsible of the Task: Test Case – GMES marine products for coastal ecosystem analysis
• March 2012 – ongoing The EU Marine Strategy Directive Implementation: The main objective of the Directive is to achieve a Good Environmental Status (GES) of the marine environment by 2020. Member States have to develop marine strategies in close cooperation with other Member States and third countries that share the same waters. The selected approach is to determine a sudden onset zoning from a set of available attributes that are considered to govern the hazard while we examine the influence of each individual events that produce the final hazard.
• Research agreement Attività di Protezione Civile- Perugia University and INGV Rome: Assessment of ground deformation in Umbria Region using inSAR techniques and multispectral imagery. The work here calls for side-by-side comparison of SAR and multispectral V-NIR imagery based on (1) SRTM analysis and V-NIR Spectral Mixing Analysis where an original DEM-based technique is developed to document the distribution of DSGSD and quantify how they affect topographic relief, (2) contrasts in backscatter intensity in SAR data, and (3) displacement inferred from SAR interferometry.
