EDUCATION:
Gianni Lisini received the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering conducting research on the analysis of remotely sensed data, mainly in the field of pattern recognition in urban and suburban areas. The research involved several typology of images and resolutions. In parallel he conducted research in the field of multiband classification of low resolution SAR images and on hyperspectral and multispectral VHR images. In 2003 he was a visiting researcher at the ENST – Telecom Paris, Paris, France, working on road extraction from satellite urban data. He join the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pavia, in the remote sensing group for research on: processing and interpretation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, especially for purposes of feature detection and tracking; earthquake damage assessment using radar remotely sensed data; seismic vulnerability evaluation by fusion of Earth Observation data. He has taken part to several research projects on related topics, including the EU FP7 project “Services and Applications for Emergency Response” (SAFER), which aims at implementing preoperational versions of the Emergency Response Core Service In the frame of the GMES initiative (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security).
Currently he has a research grant at IUSS-Pavia under EXTRAS, an FP7 Cooperation project, for studies about implementation of algorithms aimed at the systematic search of X-ray variable and transient sources in archival data. Meantime pursuing Earth observations with in-situ data, in order to evaluate the multi-risk vulnerability properties of monitored objects.
He is author or co-author of over 15 paper on international, peer-reviewed scientific journals, and over 50 papers at international conferences, 3 book chapters.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES:
– In depth knowledge of remote sensing and GIS used for thematic image interpretation.
Post-doc researcher in the Telecommunications and Remote Sensing laboratory of the University of Pavia, involved in GIS and map interpretation in the field of exposure, vulnerability and damage detection.
– In depth knowledge of relevant sensors used in satellite remote sensing, including SAR, for the Emergency Management Service, or equivalent.
Involved in research and validation activities in remote sensing for Emergency Management Service, especially using SAR sensors.
– In depth knowledge and practical experience with both visual and automatic image interpretation techniques.
Involved in research in the field of multiband classification, SAR images, hyperspectral and multispectral VHR images for comparison between automatic classification and visual interpretation.

– Ability to program or script in relevant languages to customize and automatize existing image classification algorithm and map production.

Expert in algorithm customization in different languages for urban and land cover mapping with particularly attention in the field of any kind of disaster in urban areas.

– Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, good communication skills. Working knowledge of English language.
Reviewing activity for the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing and for other journals. Chairmen of sessions at international conference.
Education and Experience:
– Minimum 10 years of relevant studies and experience after the secondary school.
5 year University degree, 3 years PhD, 7 years of research as post-doc at the University of Pavia.
– Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the field of thematic processing and interpretation of satellite remote sensing, digital map production and GIS.
Research experience natural and disaster management since 2001, involved in projects at the national and international level.
– Minimum 3 years of professional experience in projects related to thematic processing and interpretation of satellite remote sensing for digital map production in emergency management contexts, or equivalent.
– Experience in GIS and remote sensing after the University degree.
