The Doctorate Program at the European School for Advanced Studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk (ROSE School) is based on a combination of advanced courses (in English) and original research work. The study program covers a broad spectrum of topics related to seismic engineering giving room for both theoretic aspects as well as aspects connected to application and design. A commitee of experts of international fame, coming from renowned institutions around the world is responsible for teaching the courses and supervising the research activity of doctoral students. To obtain a Doctorate by Research, a minimum period od stufy of 36 months is required during which the student can simultaneously do the Masters program at the school and obtain the Masters degree, since the credits earned from the courses are valid for both the programs. A student may also carry out a part of the thesis work in an institution where one of the ROSE school faculty works. The student is required to remain in Pavia at the ROSE school is in fact only required during the courses (although a number of students, thanks to the stimulating research environment choose to stay in Pavia to complete a major part of their research and only spend a period of 4 - 6 months abroad in another institution). All these factors contribute to the of ROSE School's uniqueness. ROSE School is fast becoming an important centre for the development and research in the field of seismic engineering thanks to its entirely international nature and its innovative approach to education. Further information on the contents of the program, organisation of the courses, application procedure and economic aspects can be found at: http://www.roseschool.it.
