Tim Sullivan obtained his Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and his Masters and PhD in Earthquake Engineering from the ROSE School, Italy. Tim has a considerable amount of professional engineering experience, beginning his professional career in 1998 and having worked in New Zealand, Germany and the UK on many international projects, including the Macau Tower (338m), the Taiwan High Speed Railway Viaduct, the Almaty Tower (approx. 200m high), and the Istanbul Tower (approx. 220m high). Tim is a Chartered Engineer with the UK institute of Civil Engineers and is a Member of the New Zealand Earthquake Engineering Society. His main research interests are in the fundamentals of seismic design, with an emphasis on Direct Displacement-Based Design, Capacity Design and Performance-Based Design. In addition to his role in the EUCENTRE, Tim is currently an Assistant Professor with the University of Pavia, Italy.
