The Section SIDE* has been created with the main general objective of treating in a consistent and comprehensive way the problems of input and design. Too often in the past these two aspects have been considered separately, while we believe that input is nothing else than an aspect of the overall problem of designing new constructions and assessing the response of existing one.
Demand and capacity could be studied separately only instrumentally, having fully in mind the second one when focusing on the first and vice versa.
The section is thus the heir of the section “Design Method” once led by Tim Sullivan.
* IDE is not only an easy acronym of the section name, but represents as well our aim of applying an attitude of “lateral thinking” to favour the growth of knowledge.
