Developed as part of the \u201cDipartimenti d’Eccellenza\u201d project of the Scuola Universitaria Superiore di Pavia (IUSS), the 9D system is a unique tool for real-time seismic analysis of non-structural elements. It consists of a six-degree-of-freedom shake-table at the base, supplemented by a three-degree-of-freedom vibrating table placed four metres up, enabling the simulation of two consecutive floors of a building.<\/p>\n

Unlike conventional systems with a single base table, this innovative configuration realistically reproduces the effects of an earthquake at any height in a structure by subjecting specimens to simultaneous acceleration and inter-storey deformation movements. This enables the seismic behaviour of non-structural elements such as infills, false ceilings, suspended plant, pressurised piping, air handling units, industrial shelving and server racks to be studied with an unprecedented level of fidelity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
