Since January 2020, Regione Lombardia and the EUCENTRE Foundation have been collaborating to carry out activities of public and mutual interest, developed in synergy through joint initiatives. In particular, their commitment in the educational sector focuses on promoting civil protection awareness starting from the Civil Protection Promotion Centers (CPPCs).
\n<\/span>As part of this collaboration, a specific project has been developed involving visits to the EUCENTRE Foundation focused on seismic risk. These visits, lasting approximately two hours, are aimed at primary and secondary school students (both lower and upper levels).<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposed activities are tailored to the age of the participants. For primary school students, the visit includes a brief introduction to earthquakes and seismic risk, with a focus on good civil protection practices, followed by an interactive game in which students apply what they have learned. The visit ends with a seismic simulation using the Compact Simulator System, allowing participants to observe the effect of resonance in a structure and understand the difference in behavior between a seismically isolated structure and a non-isolated one.<\/span><\/p>\n

For lower and upper secondary school students, the visit begins with a presentation on the structure of the Earth and the earthquake phenomenon, including key characteristics and measurement scales. This is followed by an explanation of seismic risk and the impact of earthquakes on buildings. A historical overview of major Italian earthquakes is then provided, concluding with a section on best practices in civil protection related to seismic risk.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second part of the visit focuses on the activities of seismic engineering research centers, with particular attention to the activities carried out by the EUCENTRE Foundation. It concludes with a tour of the Foundation’s laboratories and a seismic simulation using the Compact Simulator System, enabling participants to see how resonance affects a structure and to compare the behavior of seismically isolated vs. non-isolated structures.
