Over five decades of research and teaching, he decisively shaped how nonlinear modelling, structural reliability, and probabilistic seismic risk assessment are conceived today, helping shift the discipline from a predominantly deterministic view of safety to a rigorous framework that explicitly addresses uncertainty and translates it into more transparent and accountable engineering decisions.<br \/>\nAmong his most celebrated contributions stands the constitutive model for structural steels under cyclic stress developed together with M. Menegotto. The Menegotto-Pinto model remains to this day a de facto reference in the numerical simulation of non-linear structural response, incorporated in all major software packages and computational frameworks for advanced dynamic analysis worldwide. Few contributions in structural engineering have achieved such longevity and universality.<br \/>\nRecognised internationally as one of the foremost authorities in the seismic engineering of bridges and infrastructure systems, Pinto also played a prominent and influential role in European institutional and regulatory contexts, promoting an engineering culture grounded in the explicit acknowledgment and rigorous treatment of uncertainty.<br \/>\nFor Eucentre and the ROSE School, Pinto was far more than a distinguished scientist. He was one of the founding supporters who gave the School its scientific authority and global ambition, and who trained generations of engineers and researchers from all over the world with a demanding, intellectually rigorous style. This synergy makes it possible to rebuild not only physical spaces, but also a sense of community and trust in the future.<br \/>\nAt the age of 17, the artist experienced the dramatic Irpinia earthquake in his hometown of Potenza. Following the disaster, he was forced to live for a month in an industrial warehouse and then spent a year in Liguria as a guest, due to the severe damage to his family home. The need to restore order after chaos, a feeling that emerged strongly from his personal experience remains central to his work, where geometric order seeks to give structure to a chaotic design.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Maurizio Lotito (Malo)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Born in Potenza on 23 March 1963, Maurizio Lotito is a visual artist who creates works using acrylic paint on porcelain stoneware. His artistic research combines the reinterpretation of traditional techniques (mosaic, cloisonn\u00e9, and stained glass) with the complexity of musical structures, giving rise to geometric forms and compositions of color characterized by a constant and immersive rhythm. This approach is also deeply influenced by his long career in the music world, with hundreds of concerts behind him as a percussionist, singer, and tour manager. In 2025, two of his works were exhibited at the ArtExpo exhibition in New York City.
