A seismic testing campaign on uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), commissioned by Vertiv s.r.l., a global provider of critical digital infrastructure, has been completed at the laboratories of the Eucentre Foundation for VertivTM TrinergyTM power system. Vertiv provides power systems, cooling technologies, racks, and services for data centres, communication networks, and industrial and commercial facilities.

The experimental activities were carried out on Eucentre’s 6-DOFs shake table, one of the most advanced worldwide, capable of accurately reproducing seismic ground motions. The campaign involved tri-axial dynamic tests performed in compliance with the main international standards: IEC60068-2-57, IEC60068-3-3, ICC ES AC156, IEEE 693-2018, and Telcordia GR-63-CORE.

The goal was to qualify the seismic performance of UPS under realistic and progressively demanding conditions, up to the worst-case scenario, thereby ensuring the equipment’s reliability even in extreme situations. A dedicated test setup was designed for this purpose, including steel interface plates and an advanced instrumentation system for acceleration and displacement measurements.

This type of experimental campaign is particularly significant: non-structural elements, such as electrical equipment and cooling systems, are critical to maintaining the operability of essential services during and after earthquakes. Their seismic qualification drastically reduces the risk of service disruption, economic losses, and safety issues for building occupants.

The testing campaign was conducted in September 2025, within the framework of project EUC029/2025E – contract 2025.LAB.023, under the scientific and technical responsibility of Eng. Igor Lanese and Eng. Elisa Rizzo Parisi.
