Dr. Carlo G. Lai is Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Pavia (Italy), Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering. He is also collaborate with Eucentre and is affiliate faculty at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Pavia (UME School – IUSS).
Dr. Lai earned his MSc in Civil Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 1988 and an MSc in Civil Engineering, an MSc in Engineering Science and Mechanics and a PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA) in the years 1995, 1997, and 1998, respectively.
His primary research interests are in theoretical modeling of seismic wave propagation in geomaterials, earthquake geotechnics and engineering seismology.
He has been coordinator of numerous research projects funded by public and private agencies in Italy and abroad. Recently Dr. Lai was the technical lead of LIQUEFACT, a 3.5 years European research project on the assessment and mitigation of soil liquefaction potential across Europe. Dr. Lai is author/co-author of more than 200 scientific publications including two books. In 2003, he was awarded with the Bishop Research Medal for the best research article in Geotechnical Engineering published in 2002 by the British Institution of Civil Engineers.
