Thanks to its high quality experimental infrastructure, the Eucentre Foundation has been carrying out tests on structural support devices and earthquake-proof devices (isolators and dissipators) since 2007.
To carry out the qualification tests, the Eucentre laboratories use the following two pieces of test equipment:
- “BTS” (Bearing Testing System) is an advanced experimental device designed for laboratory testing of seismic isolation and dissipation devices such as rubber isolators, structural bearings, and metal or viscous dissipators. The BTS at Eucentre enables accredited testing in accordance with recognised standards: UNI EN 15129:2018 – only 8.3.4.1.1 – 8.3.4.1.3 – 8.3.1.2.5* – 8.3.4.1.5 – 8.3.1.2.6 – 8.3.1.2.7 – 8.3.4.1.2 – 8.3.1.2.2 | Curved surface sliders, UNI EN 15129:2009 – only 8.3.4.1.1 – 8.3.4.1.3 – 8.3.1.2.5* – 8.3.4.1.5 – 8.3.1.2.6 – 8.3.1.2.7 – 8.3.4.1.2 – 8.3.1.2.2 | Curved surface sliders, UNI EN 15129:2018 – only 8.2.4.1.5.1 – 8.2.1.2.8 – 8.2.1.2.2 – 8.2.4.1.5.2 – 8.2.1.2.3 – 8.2.1.2.5 – 8.2.1.2.6 – 8.2.1.2.7 -8.2.4.1.5.3 | Elastomeric isolators, UNI EN 15129:2009 – only 8.2.4.1.5.1 – 8.2.1.2.8 – 8.2.1.2.2 – 8.2.4.1.5.2 – 8.2.1.2.3 – 8.2.1.2.5 – 8.2.1.2.6 – 8.2.1.2.7 -8.2.4.1.5.3 | Elastomeric isolators;
- “DTS” (Damper Testing System) is a machine designed for the mechanical characterisation of seismic dissipation devices, which reduce the stresses transmitted to structures during an earthquake. The DTS system enables static, cyclic and dynamic tests to be performed on a variety of devices, including viscous, hysteretic, friction and magnetorheological dissipators, under real load conditions. The DTS enables accredited testing to be carried out in accordance with recognised standards: UNI EN 15129:2009 – only 5.3.4.3-5.3.4.4-5.3.4.5-5.3.4.6-5.3.4.7-5.3.5 | Shock Transmission Unit, UNI EN 15129:2018 – only 5.4.4.3-5.4.4.4-5.4.4.5-5.4.4.6-5.4.4.7-5.4.4.8-5.4.5 | Shock Transmission Unit, UNI EN 15129:2009 – only 7.4.2.3-7.4.2.4-7.4.2.5-7.4.2.6-7.4.2.7-7.4.2.8-7.4.2.9-7.4.2.10-7.4.3 | Fluid Viscous Damper, UNI EN 15129:2018 – only 7.4.2.3-7.4.2.4-7.4.2.5-7.4.2.6-7.4.2.7-7.4.2.8-7.4.2.9-7.4.2.10-7.4.3 | Fluid Viscous Damper, IEC/IEEE 60980-344:2020 – only 6.4 – 8.6.4 – 9.1.6.2 – 9.2 – 9.6.1.3 – 9.6.1.4 – 9.6.3.2 – 9.6.3.3 – 9.6.6 | Nuclear facilities – Equipment important to safety
The Eucentre Foundation has many years of experience gained from testing over 3,000 isolators, 1,500 structural bearings, and 200 dissipators.
At Eucentre, test protocols can be carried out according to the main international standards (EN 1337: Structural bearings; EN 15129: Antiseismic devices; and AASHTO), or customised research and development experimental campaigns can be developed in agreement with the customer.
