National and international standards (such as Technical Standards for Construction and Eurocodes) and sector directives (including the Seveso III Directive) require an assessment of seismic actions for the design of new production facilities, as well as for modifications and/or adaptations to existing structures. These actions must be defined based on the fundamental local seismic hazard, taking into account the local geomorphological, geological, and geotechnical characteristics of the site in question.
Eucentre has gained significant experience in calculating basic seismic hazards using both probabilistic and deterministic approaches. The latter is based on numerical simulations of a rare event (scenario earthquake). In recent years, our knowledge base has also been enriched by experience in the field of induced seismicity.
Eucentre is a non-profit private law foundation whose mission is to conduct research and provide training and services in earthquake and safety engineering
Eucentre promotes science, research and innovation for the benefit of the community, offering targeted methodologies and concrete solutions for prevention, safety and resilience. It collaborates with institutions and companies to disseminate competencies for the common good.
