Eucentre promotes science, research and innovation for the benefit of the community, offering targeted methodologies and concrete solutions for prevention, safety and resilience. It collaborates with institutions and companies to disseminate competencies for the common good.

Eucentre carries out research activities in earthquake engineering and risk reduction through laboratory testing and numerical analysis, aiming to improve the seismic performance of structures and soils and to develop innovative seismic retrofitting techniques.
The Foundation promotes diverse and high-quality training activities aimed at academic and professional contexts, with constantly updated and innovative programs and initiatives designed to meet the evolving needs of the sector and society 
Eucentre ensures communication aimed at informing institutions, professionals, and citizens about ongoing activities and projects, with the goal of disseminating useful and accessible content and knowledge. It contributes to promoting a shared and informed culture of prevention and resilience.
On 12-13th September, EUCENTRE brought together over 70 researchers, academics and industry professionals for the SERA European Seismic Risk Model Workshop, hosted at Bogazici University in Istanbul. The main aim of this workshop was to obtain feedback on the research activities being undertaken as part of the development of the 2020 European Seismic Risk Model (ESRM20), which will be released at the end of the SERA project and hosted on the European Seismic Risk Services portal. These research activities include an update to the European seismic hazard model, new proposals for modelling site amplification at a regional scale, exposure and vulnerability modelling for the predominant building classes in Europe, and validation and verification of the European risk results. On the second day of the workshop, over 50 participants were trained to use the open source OpenQuake-engine software for probabilistic risk assessment.
The workshop was held in collaboration with the Global Earthquake Model (GEM), a global collaborative effort that brings together state-of-the-art science, national, regional and international organisations and individuals for the establishment of uniform and open standards for calculating and communicating earthquake risk worldwide. The GEM Foundation released its first global risk model in December 2018, and intends to update the European component of this global model with ESRM20.
