ISRA (Integrative Strengthening of Seismic Risk Awareness) was a project funded by the European Union under the following grant agreement: 101101255 – ISRA – UCPM-2022-PP. Coordinated by IZIIS, the project began in December 2022 and lasted two years.
It focused on the cross-border region of North Macedonia, Albania, and Greece. The project’s target area, comprising 18 municipalities in North Macedonia, 11 districts in Albania and 12 municipalities in Greece, was chosen because of its susceptibility to potentially disastrous natural events, particularly earthquakes and landslides.

Geographic focus of the project – Cross-border region N. Macedonia-Albania-Greece.
The project built upon the CRISIS (Comprehensive Risk Assessment of Basic Services and Transport Infrastructure) project, which was coordinated by IZISS, of which EUCENTRE was a partner. The project began in November 2020 and ended two years later.
The main objective of ISRA was to raise awareness among people living (or working) in the project area of their exposure to seismic risk. Specifically, the project aimed to: (i) improve knowledge of earthquakes and earthquake-induced landslides; (ii) inform the population about how to behave in the event of a strong earthquake; and (iii) train emergency management officials in risk and crisis communication. These objectives were pursued through training activities and media campaigns developed within the project for different audiences.
