On Wednesday, August 20th, the Eucentre Foundation hosted a visit of a prestigious delegation from Uzbekistan. This delegation comprised 12 esteemed members from various sectors of Uzbekistan’s academic, governmental, and civil engineering communities. The visit was a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of earthquake engineering.

The delegation, led by Prof. Mirzayev Sirojiddin Zainiyevich of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, included high-level representatives from the President’s Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Institute of Seismology, the Ministry of Construction and leading Uzbek universities.

The programme included a comprehensive tour of Eucentre’s facilities, focusing on the multimedia classroom and state-of-the-art laboratories. Afterwards, a meeting was held during which an overview of the activities that Eucentre carries out in collaboration with other Pavia institutions, such as the IUSS, the University of Pavia, and the GEM Foundation, in the field of earthquake engineering was presented.

The Uzbek delegates showed particular interest in Eucentre’s testing facilities, the Italian seismic regulatory framework, seismic isolation technologies and Eucentre’s network, which includes companies, universities and start-ups.

This interest reflects Uzbekistan’s increasing focus on adopting advanced earthquake-resistant technologies in a country with high seismic activity.

At the end of the meeting, the delegation presented Prof. Rui Pinho, vice-president of Eucentre, with a symbolic present as a token of appreciation and as a wish for future collaboration.

This visit is part of Eucentre’s efforts to promote international cooperation in earthquake engineering. The Foundation continues to consolidate its role as a global centre of excellence, attracting the attention of experts and institutions worldwide.

The presence of such an influential Uzbek delegation underlines the growing importance of earthquake-resistant technologies in Central Asia. It opens new perspectives for joint research projects and knowledge exchanges between Italy and Uzbekistan in seismic safety.
