The programme for the 9th International Nigel Priestley Seminar has been officially published. The event will take place in Pavia on May 29th and 30th, 2025, at Il Collegio Cardinale Agostino Riboldi, consolidating its position as a significant event in the international panorama of earthquake engineering and sustainable structural design.
Promoted by IUSS Pavia, the ROSE PhD programme and in collaboration with the Eucentre Foundation and the University of Pavia, the seminar will bring together PhD students, alums, and researchers from all over the world, offering an important platform to share the latest research results in the field of seismic risk mitigation.

Keynote Lecture: Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Design

The highlight of the seminar will be the Lectio Magistralis by Prof. Alessandra Marini of the University of Bergamo, entitled Shaping the Sustainability Transition: Challenges for Conceptual Structural Design.
The keynote will address the challenges that the transition to sustainability poses to the conceptual design of structures, a topic of increasing importance for civil engineering and urban resilience strategies.

An opportunity for the future of earthquake engineering

The Nigel Priestley Seminar is a unique opportunity to explore structural materials innovation, seismic vulnerability reduction strategies, advanced modelling, and resilient solutions.
Through ROSE PhD students’ presentations and high-profile professional contributions, the event is set to become an international forum for scientific and technological progress in earthquake engineering.
